Official of the Year Award
Norman D. Carter
Dedicated in Norman’s honor in 1997
Norm graduated from Evander Childs High School in New York City in 1938 and from Ithaca College in 1942. He earned his Master’s and Doctorate Degrees from Columbia University in 1947 and 1951 respectively. He went on to have a distinguished teaching and administrative career that spanned 36 years, less three he committed to the Navy from 1943-46. Norm was a long standing certified official for the Eastern College Athletic Conference Official, President of the Suffolk County Football Officials Association, and President of the New York State Association of Certified Football Officials during his distinguished career. Perhaps Norm’s greatest contribution was the role he played in the Suffolk youth football community. He was a fixture as the Coordinator and Assignor of officials for the Suffolk County P.A.L and its predecessor, the Western Suffolk Little Conference. Norm passed away in 2015, but his contribution to amateur football in Suffolk County will never be forgotten.
